Master-Pull Recovery Equipment was founded in 1996 by Emil Bjornsson, a commercial fisherman from Iceland , the land of the Vikings. Later, with a desire for exploration, similar to that of his Viking forefathers, Emil packed his bags and moved to the USA where he worked in the commercial fishing industry in the frigid Bearing Sea for many years.

With his knowledge of rigging and ropes used in the fishing industry, Emil set out to find new markets for the advanced rope technologies used out fishing. Instantly, Master-Pull was born. Using his vast knowledge of ropes from the fishing industry he converted marine-grade products and lines (ropes) into winch lines and tow ropes. He introduced the synthetic winch line to the rock crawling competitions and competitors, and now the use of synthetic winch lines is mandatory instead of wire cable in most rock crawling events and competitions. Synthetic winch lines are now commonly used by the off-road community, military and industrial purposes internationally.
